Reaching the end of his regular table grace, the little fellow paused. Prompting
him to conclude the prayer, his mother said, “A-Men.”
“Don’t say, ‘A-Men,”
the youngster stated in a definitive tone of voice.

He then proceeded to give thanks for his parents, grandparents, the sun, the
moon, the stars, flowers, birds and trees.

After thanking God for everything that entered his young mind, he was
ready for the “A-Men.”

It had not troubled the little fellow in the least that the food was getting cold or
that others were anxious to eat. He had a thankful heart and wanted to take time
to voice his praise to God.

In all probability, the youngster will learn to keep his mealtime prayer of thanksgiving
brief. He, too, will reach the age that his mind will be focused more on the good
food in front of him than on all the other gifts that flow freely from God. Hopefully,
he will not outgrow his appreciation of family, nature and the necessities and luxuries of life.

In this hurried life, not everyone takes time to say, “thank You,” to God. As we
observe each new day, let us see how many taken-for-granted blessings we
can think of to thank God for, and not get in a big hurry to say, “A-Men.”

“O, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!”
