Be sure your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23
Recommended Reading Mark 4:21-23
A grocery store owner in Virginia thought he had found
a great deal—
ten acres of land alongside a busy highway for their new outlet. For several years, the store did a thriving business, but then the foundation started to shift and the floor began slanting at a precarious level. As it turned out, the store had been built on an abandoned landfill; and as the old garbage decayed, the building began to sink.
Our sins are like that. Perhaps there's some garbage in
your heart
or mind. It might be lust or impure thoughts. Maybe you've been flirting with someone you shouldn't be seeing, or developing an emotional attachment to someone to whom you're not married. Or it might be little slivers of dishonesty, a bitter attitude toward someone, or a perpetual neglect of prayer.
The Bible tells us to be sure our sins will find us
out. Sooner or later,
they'll affect the foundations of our spiritual life. We may try to hide our sin, but the Bible declares that it will not stay hidden indefinitely. The only sure foundation is repentance, honesty, integrity, and faithfulness to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Search me, O God, and know my heart today; try me, O
Savior, know my
thoughts I pray. Dr. J. Edwin Orr
